Women from the Seeking Life program smiling together

Women must seek life. Not Survival.

Women have always learned to endure, to resist, to survive. Seeking Life was born from the commitment to guide extraodinary women to life outside of survival.

A woman does not need to be fixed. She needs space to reconnect with her strength, embrace her purpose, and remember the power she has always carried within. Her journey is not about becoming someone else it is about discovering how far she can continue to rise, grow, and go beyond her own expectations.

Where it began

Born to create life.

Forced to seek survivial.

Our history

Mothers in need.

When Lucienne Duncan began helping her community in Lamardelle, Haiti, she noticed something that changed everything. The children needed help and guidance, but so did their mothers.

As long as they were struggling, with the boundaries of poverty, trauma, isolation, and a lack opportunities to build their own lives, the children would inherit those same struggles.

You cannot fully free a child without also freeing their mother. That is why Seeking Life was created. The program that begin in Haiti as "Chache Lavi" has now been successfully transforming immigrant and racialized women’s lives here in Montréal.

These women, often mothers, carry heavy weight, in a different city, in a different language, fighting for bothm them and their family’s survival while forgetting to live.

FEJ stands to to empower these women to emotional and financial freedom. We believe that a who women rises, elevates her whole community.

Seeking Life · Success story · Haiti

Marie Guerdie

Mother of five. Lamardelle, Haiti.

"Before Chache Lavi, Marie was struggling to make ends meet with a small loan and a business she was running alone. She was only surviving, barely. After the program, she expanded her commercial activity, eliminated her debt, and became a leader in her community. She didn’t just change her own life. She changed the conversation in Lamardelle about what a woman can do."

Today, Marie is an inspiration to others, actively promoting environmental protection in her community and mentoring other women in the program. She sought life. And she found it.

Our mission

Not help, a transformation...

Seeking Life exists to offer immigrant and racialized women in Québec something most programs don’t, a space that sees their full humanity, not just their trauma.

combine mental health support, financial literacy, career tools, entrepreneurship, storytelling, and community, because a woman who is healing, learning, and connected is unstoppable.

Too many women have learned to survive. To hold on. To make themselves smaller so they take up less space.

Seeking Life was born from a refusal. A refusal to let extraordinary women, who have crossed oceans, carried impossible weight, and started over from nothing, spend their lives merely surviving.

Because a woman who seeks life, not survival, doesn’t just change her own trajectory. She changes her children’s. Her community’s. The world around her.
